Sitting outside a Burger King on Van Nuys Boulevard, I find my mind wandering. I have a list of things to talk about, and none of them really warrant their own blog post (at least not yet).
Here goes:
- Standing out is better than blending in.
- I’m in marketing. If I’m not making waves, I’m not doing my job.
- Tools are for using. If you can’t bring yourself to use a tool, you aren’t working correctly.
- Never treat people like tools, or assets. A tool is only as good as the person who wields it, and cannot surpass a person in creativity, uniqueness, work ethic, or cleverness.
- If an employee asks for a raise, they feel deserving of one. If they don’t deserve a raise, tell them why. They will either leave or work harder to deserve it. If they do deserve one, and you aren’t willing to provide it, you forfeit any right to complain about the results of your decision.
- People are smarter than you think. If you think someone is smart, watch out.
