I Was Gonna Write A Poem

I was gonna write a poem
But I wound up shuffling words
Until, my train of thought, t’was disappeared.
It would have been a piece
About what irks me most
But instead, began to rhyme of what I feared.

Since that would never do
I started to eschew
Contemplating var’ous rhythms in my head.
Those turned into a song
Which became a little long
Quickly running off, and soon, was dead.

I was gonna write a book
Just a lovely little trip
Full of references and galleries to me.
But I realized, by and by
That no one wants to read
About the life of one whose tale’s still happening.

Besides, the pride of one who does
Has, if laughingly, begun
To tow’r above the arrogance of most.
Should I be seated low
Quite content to make no show
And, humbly, let the loudest make their boast?

I was gonna write a film
Which, when watched, would break the heart
Cause the tears to come a’spilling from each eye.
This, in turn, gave me a thought
And I quickly turned away
Leaving scripts and songs to rest, unsatisfied.

If I was set to cry
About the narrowest of things
Breaking hearts to get emotions off my chest
I would rather waste my time
Setting random thoughts to rhyme
And then leave to write a paper for my test.
