Thunderstruck

Ahhh….you’re stuck. The goofy looks…the nonsense jokes…the inevitable grins. It’s all there. What are you denying it for? It’s captured your thoughts in a big bowl, and now it mixes them around for hours, causing long digressions and silly noises to emanate from your mouth in a series of drooling spurts.

You know what I mean. And I know who you are.

So I have a question:

DO YOU MEAN IT?

Sure, you can’t take your eyes off them. You can’t stop thinking about them. You’re childish, responsible, gawking, respectable, stupid, and brilliant at the same time. You’re reduced to rubble when they scorn you, and you’re on a space ship when they smile at you.

DO YOU MEAN IT?

Is this love real? Does it come from a heartspring, welling up inside and flowing over; NOT with an excess of pride, or self-doubt, or even loneliness…but from an utter lack of SELF. Is that what’s happening? Are you forgetting yourself in this quest for Love?

DO YOU MEAN IT?

Can you mean to think about the other person all the time? Well…maybe not. That’s not what I’m saying, though. What about the fact that you’re partly in this whole mess for yourself. Oh, you know it. You see it infringe on a pure relationship, and frankly, you think you’d be pretty well off without this pesky reminder, haunting you when you’re feeling just dandy. That’s when you need to wake out of this drug-induced coma and ask yourself three things:
– Am I willing to lay down not only my physical well-being for this person, but along with that, my wants, desires, comfort, happiness, and pride?
– Am I willing to sacrifice all I have to give this person what they need, at my own expense?
-DO I MEAN IT?

Saying is one thing. Doing is different. KNOWING…now there’s a thought. What you know condemns you…eternally, that is. You could convince yourself, but you haven’t fooled anyone else. Ultimately, you’ll have to face yourself at the end of the day and question yourself face to face, heart to heart, and head to head. Will you ask if there was a better way to do something? Will you ask if this was meant to be? How about asking if you meant it.
