I miss NYC. I spent two days alone in the city once, walking around by myself and getting lost. I spent 3 hours in Chinatown tourist shops looking for a gift for my sister, explored the southern tip of Manhattan and the historic grounds and parks. I used to film ballet performances for Gelsey Kirkland’s academy, so on the days I’d have to myself, a dancer would suddenly appear at a street crossing, dressed in practice skirts and tights, clutching gym bags. It was one of those sights that stood out- petite girls against a backdrop of New York’s enormity.
Wall Street was interesting. At 1pm on a Thursday, the stone streets are almost completely empty. Small groups or lone suit-clad workers would hurry out of coffeeshops, but the noise and traffic was gone. Eerie.
And when the city gets cold, the only visible change are the coats and hats and boots. Winter is a small hardship in a city that moves on no matter what.
I miss New York City. Even in the short time spent there, it was always good to me.
