Who’s the worst person you know? Besides you, of course.
It’s most likely someone in power, an authority figure in your life. Chances are you feel they’re incompetent in their job, interact poorly with others, or behave towards you in a demeaning and disparaging way. You put up with it at work, and upon arriving back at home, suddenly gain a level of confidence to talk back and stand up for yourself, which is impossible for your boss to hear while you’re home alone in your underwear, swearing at the bathroom mirror.
We all have our own ways of dealing with stress and oppressive moments of incompetence. Getting yelled at by a full-grown man or woman does nothing good for a normal person’s well-being. But to stay beholden to social politeness, bound by financial or provisional responsibility, can wear down a soul to the bone. Do not let external factors keep you in an unhealthy environment. If you’d report a mold problem, a health hazard or office fire to management, why wouldn’t you leave an office with emotional health hazards?
I’m not saying you should be a thin-skinned sissy who can’t deal with normal human interaction. Just consider the alternatives.
