Ooh, chills. Can you imagine inventing a whole new term to justify your hubris and desire for power?
We live in a new age, in a country that does not understand what it means to be completely free of national power, totally in control of your own land and life, on a world that is not yet fully discovered.
While most of America has been explored and settled, it was a new experience for me to drive across it this week, moving from North Carolina and the East Coast all the way to California and the West Coast, transversing this gorgeous land of purple mountains and spacious skies. During my arduous drive, an entirely new world was opened up, filled with vast deserts, towering windmills, treacherous mountain passes, rolling ranches, wide expanses of untamed, wild land.
I can imagine the first explorers’ thoughts, their eagerness to take that land, their ability to rationalize the capture with a skewed worldview centering solely on themselves. In only three days, I wanted to claim this country for myself. It is indeed beautiful. I am unapologetically proud of my country.
