It’s no secret that any film John Lassiter touches has magic in it. I’m pretty sure Disney bought Pixar, and then realized afterwards who the golden goose really was. You can see the films he’s produced and imbued with certain mystical properties, and if you’re my age, you even grew up with them. Monsters Inc., The Incredibles, Cars, Wall-E. Then at Disney, he fixed their bad case of failure with Princess and the Frog and Tangled before ultimately leading these companies on a non-stop ride through Winnersville. The man truly is a gift.
I just rewatched Wreck-It Ralph for the 15th time, and even though the movie premiered when I was in my 20’s, it’s still a work of art and a trip to my past. And Zootopia was not only socially relevant and nearly un-high-horsed, it was funny, sweet, and the sort of movie I’d want my own kids to watch when they grow up.
John Lassiter, you are a gift to humanity.
John Lassiter, you are a gift to humanity, and when you become the new Disney CEO and supreme ruler over all fun everywhere, I hope you’ll continue your alchemy streak for many more years. For now, I’m looking forward to The Incredibles sequel.
